EXT. - TRE’S HOUSE
DAY
Tre comes out of his house and sits down on his porch, eating something out of a handkerchief. On the other side of the street, Doughboy gets out of his house, a bottle of beer in his hands. While walking over to Tre he encounters a “customer” and sells him drugs. He then continues his walk to Tre, where he sits down next to him on the porch.
DOUGHBOY: What's up?
TRE: What's up?
DOUGHBOY: Yo, cuz. I know why you got out of the car last night. You shouldn't have been there in the first place. You don't want that shit to come back to haunt you. I ain't been up this early in a long time. Turned on the TV this morning. Had this shit on about ... how we're living in a violent … in a violent world. Showed all these foreign places. How foreigners live and all. I started thinking, man. Either they don't know ... don't show ... or don't care about what's going on in the 'hood. They had all this foreign shit. They didn't have shit on my brother, man. I ain't got no brother.
Doughboy makes a long pause and tries to hold his tears back.
DOUGHBOY: Got no mother, neither. She loved that fool more than she love me.
The crack whore Tre talked earlier to approaches the porch.
CRACK WHORE: Doughboy, you got some blow? Got some rock?
DOUGHBOY: Get the fuck out of my face! Keep them goddamn babies out the street.
She walks away. Doughboy sits back down.
TRE: Did y'all get 'em?
Tre looks at Doughboy, who looks right back to him. When Tre sees the answer in his eyes, he turns away.
DOUGHBOY: I don't even know how I feel about it neither, man. Shit just goes on and on, you know? Next thing you know, somebody might try to smoke me.
Doughboy takes a sip from his beer.
DOUGHBOY: Don't matter, though. We all gotta go sometime, huh? Seem like they punched the wrong clock on Rick, though.
TRE: Yeah.
DOUGHBOY: I gotta go, cuz.
Doughboy stands up and leaves.
TRE: Hey, Dough.
Doughboy stops and turns around.
DOUGHBOY: What's up?
Tre stands up, too, and walks towards Doughboy.
TRE: You still got one brother left, man.
DOUGHBOY: Thanks, man.
Both hug each other warmly.
DOUGHBOY: Later, G.
TRE: Later.
Doughboy walks towards his house while spilling his beer on the street.
